Prior to The Cronos Group, Mr. Gorenstein was a Co-Founder and Partner at Alphabet Ventures, a New York based hedge fund focused on customized deal structures for both active and passive investment opportunities. Michael’s ability to creatively structure, diligence and negotiate a wide range of transactions led to an XX% annualized return for the fund. While in this position, Michael supported portfolio companies with regulatory, legal and strategic guidance with a view towards optimizing exit opportunities.
Michael began his career as a corporate attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell, where he served as an advisor on over $100B in complex cross-border and domestic M&A, securities and leveraged finance transactions. During his tenure, he provided tactical recommendations and solutions to companies in both the public and the private sectors across multiple industries. Some of his more notable contributions include: advisor to Covidien PLC in its $43B sale to Medtronic Inc., advisor to Chiquita Brands in its $681MM sale to Cutrale-Safra Group, advisor to Veritas Capital in financing its $1.3B acquisition of the Thomson Reuters healthcare business, and advisor to Rhône Capital in financings related to its €1.05B acquisition of CSM’s bakery supplies business.
Michael graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School with a JD, the Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania with a certificate in BEPP and the Kelly School of Business at Indiana University with a BSB in Finance. Additionally, Michael enjoys serving as a mentor for StartUp BootCamp, a London based global family of industry-focused startup accelerators.
