Marcel co-founded Pathway Capital Ltd. in September 2004 and has been its president since October 2004. Pathway invests in and provides strategic support to early-stage private and public companies, which have raised over $800 million in equity and completed more than $900 million in merger and acquisition transactions in the last nine years.
Marcel has been involved in numerous successful companies as a director. He was on the board of Underworld Resources, helping guide that company to a $138 million takeover by Kinross Gold. He is currently on the board of Asanko Gold, the Ghanaian explorer that recently acquired PMI Gold. He's also former chairman of the board of Luna Gold, a Brazil-focused gold explorer that has already permitted and built one successful gold mine and has two other solid projects in the wings.
Marcel was also on the board of Premier Royalty, which, like Underworld Resources, got bought out at a premium and was a big winner for shareholders.
Marcel's Pathway Capital worked on Peru Copper (Marcel's partner Dave DeWitt was a board member), and the company was bought out for C$850 million in 2007 by Chinalco.
He is on the board of Greg Smith's Anthem United, as well as Nolan Watson's Sandstorm Gold (SAND).
A chartered accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Marcel de Groot is a quiet force, a highly intelligent man who works very hard and is earning his just rewards. On a side note, we put Marcel up there with one of the better poker players in the resource sector. We spent some time with him in Las Vegas and can say first hand that he follows the mantra "Fortune favors the bold." We will keep an eye on Marcel's activities, because he has that sought-after golden touch.
