Mr. Beaty is a geologist and resource company entrepreneur with more than 40 years of experience in the international minerals industry. He founded and currently serves as Chairman of Equinox Gold Corp., founded and remains Emeritus Chairman of Pan American Silver Corp., and has founded and divested a number of other public mineral resource companies since 1985, including Northern Peru Copper and Global Copper Corp.  Mr. Beaty has raised over $1 billion in capital and created shareholder wealth of over $4 billion since 1994.

Mr. Beaty is past President of the Silver Institute in Washington, DC, a Fellow of the Geological Association of Canada and the Canadian Institute of Mining, and a recipient of the institute's Past President Memorial Medal.  In 2007, he received the Association of Mineral Exploration of B.C.'s Colin Spence Award for excellence in global mineral exploration and in 2008 the Mining Person of the Year award from the Mining Association of B.C. In 2020 Mr. Beaty was presented with the Viola Mac Millan Award by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) and was selected as Mining Person of the Year for 2011 by Canada's Northern Miner newspaper. In 2014, he received the CIM's Vale Medal for Meritorious Contribution to Mining and in 2017 was appointed to the Order of Canada for his business contributions to the mining sector and for his philanthropy aimed at preserving the environment. In 2018, Mr. Beaty was inducted into the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, and in 2021 was awarded the C.J. Westerman Memorial Award by Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia.

Mr. Beaty was born in Vancouver, Canada and educated at the Royal School of Mines, University of London, England, M.Sc., Distinction (Mineral Exploration) 1975 and the University of British Columbia, LL.B. (Law) 1979 and B.Sc. (Honours Geology) 1974. He speaks French and Spanish, as well as some Russian, German and Italian. Mr. Beaty has worked in more than 50 countries during his career.
